its not just soviets, the lighter divisions are mexicans, south americans, asians, almost all the top MWs are europeans, the HWs are russian/ukrainian and haye, whos half black but from the UK

blacks never dominated "boxing" they dominated U.S. boxing which means they beat white/hispanic HWs with manboobs who had flipped a coin between trying this or skydiving

"the golden age" my ass, half the guys we dont have tapes of the guys we do have tapes of we watch their greatest 2-3 fights and ignore the 90% where they barely decisioned homeless people

it is what it is. the best fighters will dominate. certain factors aside from individual will power that might play a role in shaping great fighters include, but are not limited too: culture, socioeconomic status growing up, and other complex socioeconomic factors. Race is simply not an indicator of any kind of "superiority" in anything from athletics to intelligence.

I'm not going to cosign this thread but one thing I will say is the sport would be entirely different if alot of those communist countries allowed their fighters to go pro.

I mean look at fighters like Kid Galivan,Kid Chocolate, Jose Napoles etc. and just imagine if they weren't allowed to go pro. Flash forward to modern times, and imagine in Gamboa, Rigondeaux, Lara and others weren't allowed to fight professional. While they haven't peak yet, image when they do, and the void in their divisions if they weren't allowed to compete.

I do think HW boxing would be different if Soviets were allowed to turn pro. How can you argue against that? However, why single out AA instead of just saying the sport would be different?

race aside, todays 250+ lbs 6'5+ heavyweights with dedicated nutrition teams and daily olympic level training would make short work of these pathetic clowns:

you guys who like "old school wars" between loud mouthed plebeians who blocked punches with their foreheads just need to go watch WWE

i bet if soviets were allowed to go pro.. there wouldn't be that much african american dominace
but you do make a point that if more soviet boxers (not because they are "white", or whatever racial ethnicity they claim) went professional, the competition for ATG african american's would have been much stiffer. This concept also applies to Cuba - having probably the best amateur boxing system in the world.

It's hypothetical but there are more and more Russians making noises since the Berlin wall breakdown. Also there were a lot of Cubans who could done things if they were only allowed to turn pro. Socialism sucks, Gamboa have to sell his gold medal so he can pay his daughter first birthday. Casamayor got a bicycle reward for his gold medal and have to exchange it for a pig to feed his family.

These Russians are tough and strong and very discipline I'm pretty sure they would have added another dimension during those golden age of heavyweight division.
