Texas by a mile.
Georgia, Tennessee and Missouri/Kansas all a distant second.

What are some of the better BBQ joints down there? I ate at a Bill Miller’s in San Antonio and it was awful, like bland hospital food. I know Texas can do better but where?

San Antonio is better known for great Tex-Mex.
Austin, Dallas, Houston all have great bbq joints. Although some of the best bbq is in the Smaller middle of nowhere places like Amarillo, Abilene, an San Marcos.

If you ever find yourself in Tyler Texas (City east of Dallas) go to a place called louie mueller bbq. Best I’ve ever had.
