Seagulls are nasty...I live next to the beach and it's always a challenge trying to find a place to park your car where they won't target it. Once they target it every seagull that fly's by will dump on it...it's some kind of homing device they do to signal each other where they are going. If the sun bakes that stuff it can remove the clear coat of paint.
