NEW RULES AT WILDCARD TRAINING CAMP ISSUED

Los Angeles, CA -- As the training camp goes along and the harder training days looming on the horizon, Freddie Roach is making changes to adjust to the situation.

Through an emissary who contacted this writer, Freddie Roach wishes to make the new rules known.

A sign has been posted by the gym door for everyone to see.

The rules are specifically addressed to the legion of fans that hang out daily at the Wildcard Gym in hopes of getting autographs and photos of and with Pacquiao.

Beginning immediately, Roach will no longer allow fans to go up to the gym after Pacquiao completes his daily training to take photos and ask for autographs.

Roach and Team Pacquiao wishes to ask the fans for a bit of understanding.

The coming fight on May 2nd is going to be a hard one and Roach and the Team would like to have Pacquiao concentrate even more.

Not that the fans are a distraction. Roach and the Team just simply want Pacquiao to have plenty of time to rest and focus more on the task ahead.

However, the new rules will allow photo-ops and autographs on Saturday afternoons but on a limited time basis to give fans what they sought and allow Pacquiao to be in contact with his fans. After all, they are important to the success of the whole event.

The fans are asked to cooperate with the new rules and to understand that they will be enforced to the max.

Incidentally, the rules will apply across the board, from the lowly unknowns to the very known personalities.

And I heard it will also apply to the “VIP’s” that occasionally come to the gym unannounced and expect to be entertained by Pacquiao.

    That's very understandable.

They probably had to do it. I mean you could imagine all the security and separation from the fans they have at NFL training camps and other sports training camps. Boxing is just so unpopular comparatively that they used to not have to worry as much but with Pac I could imagine all these people hoarding the area and getting in the way.

Not a bad idea, although I think that as long as Pacquiao is in the US he's not particularly vulnerable to distractions.

Roach is actually very lenient with the rules. Most trainers don't allow anyone to talk to the fighter while at the gym training. They have certain days set out for that and they usually aren't once a week.

I was at Wildcard about a month before Pac beat Oscar and when I pulled into the parking lot there was a crowd of people waiting around and Pac was over by the restaurant outside the gym waiting to go inside to eat after his workout..but he graciously stood there for quite a while talking and signing....cool but he definitely wants to go eat after training, u know?

Very fair rules. We all want fighters to be at their 100%.
