  • juan manuel marquez great lightweight champion?

if juan manuel marquez quit searching for the big money fights and redemption against manny pacquiao and just stayed at lightweight could he have gone down as a great lightweight champion

he had been at lw for 3 years or a little more if he just fought the top guys at lw like he has fought some there could he have gone down as a great lw champion becuze he did fight casamayor for the ring title and then beat juan diaz who every1 saw there as the real top guy at lw could he be great lw champion?

or can he still be a great lw champion if he sticks to lw for the rest of his career?

JMM is a great champion - full stop.

Staying at lightweight might of better for the P4P all-time divisional rankings, but Marquez, for atleast the last 5 years, has simply been chasing the best possible fights out there, no matter what the weight, & that is the sign of a truly great champion.

(also a superb featherweight before then...)

Nah, he's a great fighter for his whole career, but I doubt at this stage of his career, he could establish himself as one of the greats of a historic division rich in talent.

He was already more vulnerable once he got to 135 anyway, having rough fights with considerably lesser fighters.

                Yeah.

An old Casamayor, Diaz, and Katsidis are hardly the type of opponents to cement one as one of the greatest ever at lightweight, a traditional division rich in history.

Oh, I wasn't aware the ts meant one of the greatest ever. I thought he simply asked if Marquez was a great champion at 135. Maybe he wrote some other stuff in invisible ink or something.

he is already going down as a great champion. its amazing that a guy his age at the lower weight classes is still at the top as steward said.
