Bro what are your thoughts on this?

          https://www.americanrifleman.org/art...cal-duty-ammo/

Reason I ask is because what I have in my M&P Shield 9mm is Hornady Critical Duty, not Hornady Critical Defense

          • I've been thinking of getting this for pocket carry:

            With this holster:

Only issue I have with this gun is that the barrel is stainless steel and I cannot find it with a black one.

So my question would be...can you paint the barrel with this and will it work:

            • Now that im trying to carry legally, i realize how strict Ca law is. The selection is so small!

No PPQ M2 , no newer glocks models etc.

I really want a PPQ. I heard so many good things about its trigger.

My bro in law uses hornady critical duty and critical defense

I think critical duty is designed for full size guns and barrier penetration. More for police work.

Critical defense is for smaller guns. More for concealed carry and self defense.

                https://www.luckygunner.com/labs/sel...tic-tests/#9mm

I like to see how they do in independent, non manufacturer tests

9mm critical duty barely expanded in their tests

9mm +p critical duty did a little better because fo the extra velocity but not much

Critical defense expanded a little better but didnt penetrate much

                • Some ppl like maximum expansion

                  Some ppl prefer maximum penetration

Most want a combo of both

When I look at these tests that luckygunner labs did or other independent online sources.....

I want something that expand more than 1 and a 1/2 times its diameter and, since I value penetration more, i want something that penetrates at least 16 inches of ballistic gelatin.

Those hornadys did not expand to 1 and 1/2 times.

9mm is .355. So you need expansion to at least .53-.54 caliber.

Those hornady hps barely expanded to .43, .47, .50

                  None expanded at least 150%

                  • Remember some of these gun companies test without a clothing fabric in front of ballistic gel to simulate clothing.

Clothing can stuff a hollow point and stop expansion.

Also most test their ammo in longer barrels to increase velocity and performance.

These luckygunner labs tests are with short barrels with denim in front of the gel to simulate heavy clothing.

For a small gun like the shield, I recommend federal micro hst.

Federal hst is their duty rounds.

Micro hst is their jhp designed for small, carry guns.

They're designed for performance in shorter barrels as well as less recoil in smaller guns.

I have my sisters ruger sp101 loaded with .38 micro hst. A few homegirls too I had buy 9mm micro hst for their shield or springfield.

Compare how federal micro hst did vs the hornadys

The 9mm micro hst expanded to .71 and still penetrated over 17 inches of ballistic gel

Is there a list of firearms allowed in Cali?

That sound nuts, just like our laws in the island
