Ali should have 6. In 1966, instead of awarding Ali its Fighter of the Year, Ring Magazine protested Ali's protest of the Vietnam War by refusing to award him Fighter of the Year. Instead of awarding a less deserving fighter, they left the award vacant.

Ali shouldn't have won in 1978 though. They awarded it to him for making history by being a 3 time HW champ, but in doing so he had to lose a fight, to a guy with half a dozen pro fights. Roberto Duran and Wilfredo Gomez were much more deserving.

I must completely agree with sonnyboyx2. It is very amazing that Ricky Hatton is on this list. He is a pretty talented boxer - but not the best one for sure. I am also surprised that Roy Jones Jr. appears only once.

Hatton had a great 2005 though. I've heard people say Lorenzo Parra deserved Fighter of the Year in 2005, but admittedly I'm not too good at following that division.

Ring FOY awards, has always been awarded to the most deserving, and so far there have not been any controversial winner.. Stop the hate.

Top 3 with the most number of FOY:

                  1. Ali - 5x
                  2. Louis- 4x
                  3. Frazier- 3x
                  Pacquiao- 3x tie

                  Great company!
