Did Hopkins ever really try to get Adamek in the ring?

Yes.
Hopkins low balled Adamek the first time and the fight was declined.
The second time around hopkins offered 60/40 split and adamek accepted, however the problem was with HBO. HBO was having budget cutbacks for the next year and they were delaying on what the budget would be, so they couldn't confirm the fight. Rather than waiting on something that may or may not happen, Adamek chose to fight Golota in Poland for some seriously good money. And the rest is history.
So yes, Hopkins was serious in his 60/40 offer and Adamek cannot be blamed for passing on a big money fight with Gotota in Poland. The problem was with HBO's budget.

Too bad the fight didnt happen but oh well we get Pascal vs BHop instead. Thanks to NATAS for the explanation.
It would have been an interesting fight indeed. I was one of the few that really wanted it to go down after the Pavlik fight.
