As previously reported, IBF cruiserweight Steve Cunningham (24-2, 12 KOs) is returning on August 26 in Germany, opponent to be announced. Cunningham is training in Austria, side by side with WBO/IBO/IBF champion Wladimir Klitschko (55-3, 49 KOs). The two champions have been sparring since last week. Cunningham is helping Klitschko get ready for his unification with WBA champion David Haye (25-1, 23 KO) on July 2.

Steve Cunningham is not the biggest puncher in the world so this will be easy sparring for Wladimir. None of Cunninghams shots will put Wlad on the back foot. Maybe his speed and agility will make a difference but once David lands his Hayemakers then we will see if Wlad has been fully prepared.

sparring is about improving your skills not busting heads, its the most technical aspect of training and cunningham has some of the best skills at CW and HW. wlad wont be practising how to take a punch he will be practising how to avoid getting hit so how hard the punches are wont make any difference.

cunningham is the best possible sparring partner for wlad, he can match hayes speed and surpass his skills, wether or not he can hurt wlad makes no difference, wlad will know he made a mistake if he gets hit clean no matter if it will have an impact or not. then he will adjust, if he can avoid getting caught clean with shots he dont see from USS in sparring he will be perfectly prepared.

to say a world champion will be easy sparring bcuz hes not a big puncher is pure ignorance. like i said power means jack ****, its about avoiding the shots. and its extremely rare to get sparring partners of cunninghams caliber.

by comparison hayes chief sparring partner is david price, not even in the same league as cunningham. wlads other sparring partners are ola afolabi (another great pick even though he lacks power) and some guy whos 2-0, u cant do better than cunningham.

Excellent sparring for Wlad I agree, he needs shorter fast guys with pedigree. Cunningham was every bit as good a cruiser as Haye.

Compared to the lumbering styles of previous challengers, Afolabi and Cunningham are great training camp opponents to help Wlad adjust for the speed and skills that Haye will bring on fight night. Afolabi's movement is really efficient, like a bigger James Toney.

Haye's also been sparring with Deontay Wilder, they're decent sparring partners because Haye will be mostly working on avoiding the jab.
