Packey was a terrific fighter as well. Les Darcy was a tremendous middleweight fighter... too bad he didn't get a chance to whip Greb. I would of loved that.

After reading about the Original Jack Dempsey I'm pretty convinced he was a talented, slick, intelligent fighter. Maybe the reason why he reigned for as long as he did because his boxing style was possibly way ahead of its time. He is described as a brilliant counter puncher with clever defensive skills and very agile with his movement which means he was probably excellent with his footwork. The Nonpareil is the classic "Great Irish Fighter" he was a true warrior and a icon during the 1880's. Just Like Marvin Hagler was during the 1980's.

Thats how I visualize seeing the original Jack Dempsey. Hopefully in the future I'll find more about his fights from newspaper accounts and be amazed with all the brutal fights he had to go through.

As for the second Jack Dempsey he was the definition of a "Powerhouse". Totally opposite of the first Dempsey who was a true believer of the Sweet Science were Dempsey#2 just wanted to beat the living crap out of you. He had skill as well and he used it in fine fashion. I think Dempsey#2 is probably greater because he was heavyweight champion and during the golden era of Tex Rickard. I think the technology in his day helped enhance his celebrity status much faster through radio including news reels in movie theaters. The first Dempsey was not fortunate to have that.

But I have a feeling the first Dempsey fought more often and had much more savage battles not only in the bareknuckle era but under the "Marquis Of Queensberry Rules" as well. Both fighters to me personally are what fighters should be. They gave everybody their money's worth and got the job done!

I think it could be right that,... I think Darcy would have been too big for MW after 1918 or 19 at the latest, so maybe Greb would have still been champion, they could have fought for a few years later but they'd be going for the LHW title..... Les would have OWNED that division for years.

I have to change my rankings lists..... Nonpariel was only a Welterweight,.... he must rank very high as a WW now and higher in my pound for pound rankings.... this dude may well be rightfully included as a TOP 10 A.T.G....... what a fighter but no wonder Fitz beat him, Bob was huge compared to the great Dempsey.
