If we are talking of US blacks then almost certainly they will have caucasian genes in their DNA - and given a man and woman with the same recessive gene, a lighter skinned child could be produced

It is possible, somewhere in their genetics is that one resessive gene that may present itself at any time. Normally the odds are very far against it though and other explanations are more likely. Like that damn blued mail man!

I think the average African American is something like 30% caucasian. You probably have a caucasian ancestor(s) somewhere back there.
