  • Joe Frazier's Chin?

Alot of people on here and on other forums, have for a long time questioned Joe Frazier's chin. And it got me thinking, do you feel he had whisker problems?

Although George Foreman was a big hitter, every time he clipped Frazier, Joe was everywere and evetually knocked him out twice.

Foreman hit Ali, Young, Chuvalo, Gregorio Peralta, Levi Forte, & Roberto Davila with similar shots/punishment and all men were able to withstand them.

Add to the fact that Frazier was also dropped twice by Oscar Bonavena and nearly knocked out by him.

Frazier was also even getting dropped early on in his career. 4-1 Mike Bruce dropped him in his second fight.

So overall were Joe Frazier's whiskers extremely vunerable? Is there truth in he avoided punchers Mac Foster, Ron Lyle, & Earnie Shavers?

Discuss......And this IS NOT A TROLL OR HATE THREAD!

Imo it was below average, his heart however is amazing and makes up for his lack of chin, you'd have to kill him to keep him down, I don't think he ducked Ron Lyle or Shavers, they came around later on in his career.
Mac however was a strong contender while Joe was still champ, not sure whether he ducked him or not but imo they should of fought.

      Styles make fights.

Punchers arent a good style match up for inside fighters like Frazier. If you think that Frazier was walking right into these big shots against one of the hardest hitting heavyweight of all time its no suprize he got KOed.

Frazier had an average chin not glass but hardly granite either.

They never fought because Quarry knocked Foster out of contention after he'd positioned himself as a threat to the title. After that he lost the rest of his meaningful fights unless you want to count an old Zora Folley.

Well there we go then, he didn't duck Mac either.

He never ducked any of the so called punchers and beat the fighters who beat them. Some people want to make up their own stories to suit their agenda, but you can't change the facts. Had Frazier fought Foster or Lyle instead of Jerry Quarry he would have been derided for ducking Quarry, and rightfully so. We know this isn't the case though.

Joe Frazier had one of the greatest chins of all time... Foreman was the hardest puncher of all time yet he could not KO Joe Frazier.

Damn this has been beaten to death. But ^ that's exactly right. Except I think you meant are instead of aren't.

That's why Mosley destroyed Margarito. I'm not saying he had a great chin but it wasn't weak either. he was never unconscious and always got back up, he had mad heart.

Fraizers chin was so weak that i cant even print out a picture of him with out the paper, on its own, ripping into a hundred pieces from the chin down.

Just listen to Larry Merchant @8.25 onwards.A far more realistic view of the whole "styles make fights" cliche.

It's not that frazier was beaten by foreman,it's that he was handled so easily and was never even competitive with him.Getting knocked down eight times in eight rounds doesn't help his argument to having a good chin either.

And this is where your argument falls short.Nobody has ever argued that frazier shouldn't have fought Quarry and Ali,not even I have criticized him for doing so.It's not who frazier did fight,it's who he didnt fight.

Ali and Quarry fought them both.Joe Louis would have fought them had they been in his era,and yet frazier didn't have it in him to do the same.
