I'm not saying it's ok or that I like it, but the reasons why they're doing are fairly simple.
I agree. It is the take-as-few-risks-as-possible-for-the-most-money approach to boxing. It was Roy Jones philosophy throughout his career and it is also Bob Arum's approach to Pacquaio and Chavez's career and his approach to Cotto's career until Cotto fought Mosley. However, Bob refers to it as the control your fighter philosophy.

Why fight Kirkland, who was knocked out by a journeyman two fights ago and looked really bad in his last fight? Why fight Williams when he could fight one of the guys who beat Williams -- Lara or Martinez? Why fight a guy who has only two fights at 147 (Ortiz) -- one a disputed win and the other a KO loss? Why fight a guy who, two fights ago, was fighting journeymen two weight divisions below you (Lopez)? Why choose any of these guys when there are at least five credible opponents at your weight class who want the fight?

The answer is simple. GBP knows that Alvarez is only a decent (not good and definitely not great) fighter who has a popular fan base. Putting him in the ring with anyone other than Lopez would risk exposing him and killing GBP annual profits report.

They tried to get him in the ring with Williams and Kirkland obviously they arent afraid to put him in with tough guys just after the unfortunate events it threw a wrench in the plan.

Are you too stupid to realize that Khan was the draw and not Garcia?
