No, but he has the most fan-friendly style so he will be rated by many as the best.

Apparently he gave the ball away more than any other player in la liga last year so it's not all an upside with him.

So the fact that the gave the ball away more than any other player in La Liga last year automatically disqualifies him as being the best footballer in the world at the moment? Or are you arguing that he isn't the best footballer of all time because of this statistic?

Zidane did it with France in 2010, Maradonna in '86, Paolo Rossi in 82.
        This.

In any case, the greatest footballer ever is Zizou. Yes, it's a subjective opinion. Don't bother trying to prove otherwise, I'll just cover my ears (eyes) and sing "la la la" like a little kid.

It's not a statistic really is it, it reflects the fact he gives the ball away more than any other player in the entire league.

And I'm arguing the latter, the best footballer of all time and of course you have to factor in world cup performance (or lack thereof in his case).

Nothing against the player, he is a phenomenal attacker but I do think his fan-friendly style blinds some to his faults and that more effective but less stylish players are overlooked in the all-time lists - particularly defenders and goal-keepers but also midfielders who don't run with the ball so much as Messi.

Pele has him covered as an all round player at this stage, he scored a 1000 goals playing in an era where skillful players could be targeted and yellow, red cards weren't given out very easily. He also won and starred in 3 world cups.

Why is this question even being asked? Yes. Best ever.

                2010? Zidane retired in 2006.
