I understand that 6 ounce gloves during the 1930's and 40's were standard in the lighter weight divisions, but I don't know if in the heavy weight div. Also, what were the glove weights per division during 1970's - 1980's and currently?

By the time of young Clay, it was 8 oz. Today for heavy title bouts, it's 12oz as I recall.

It should still be 10 oz, which changed in the 80s.

Ali wore 6 oz. gloves when he couldn't put away little Karl Mildenberger in less than 12.
Maybe the fight went on too long, but the famed pre-exile Ali couldn't crush a grape.
Compare that to the assault Dempsey raged on Firpo, Wilalrd and Sharkey... or how he nearly sparked Tunney.
