  • Boxing isn't dominated by certain fighters the way UFC is.

Look at Anderson Silva GSP and BJ, they can't be touched. They are so far ahead of their opponents in terms of skill. You could argue that there are fighters at a higher weight class that may be able to match them but the weight classes in UFC have a large disparity between them.

In boxing when ever a dominant fighter rises to the top of a division there is usually always a worthy challenger (whether they fight or not is a different story). Even if a fighter dominates a weight class there is usually a fighter in a division below or above with the necessary skills to challenge them bearing in mind that weight classes in boxing have a lower disparity between them.

    Thoughts?

You're right. The only problem is UFC is a promotion and unlike boxing they do not co-promote. It's like comparing Top Rank to UFC. Imagin if Top Rank fighters could only fight other Top Rank fighters? Another thing is the weight classes. It's easier to move up in weight in boxing and be successful when compared to MMA. Only a handful of MMArtists have title in multiple divisions and to my knowledge nobody has had more than two titles in two different divisions. In boxing you have weight diviosions like Jr Featherweight and Featherweight which is only a 4lb difference. The divisions in UFC are 155, 170, 185, 205, 205+. It's not like boxing where your body matures into the next weight class. In boxing guys usually move up in weight because they can't make weight at the division they're currently in. In MMA you have to make a 15 to 20 pound jump which means you're not fighting at your natural weight and are at a huge disadvantage. Imagin Tim Bradley having to jump up to Middleweight to fight Kelly Pavlik. That's a huge mismatch! Or Manny Pacquiao at SWM to fight Lucian Bute or Andre Ward. And last but not least boxing has been around forever and the level of competition is much higher. In 20 to 30 years I'm sure MMA will be just as competitive and have more weight divisions.

Youd be surpised at all the dominate guys in boxing weight classes that no one wants to fight. Paul Williams scared everyone at 147 and Winky Wright did the same at 154. But Rabbit Punch said it best, the competition level is world wide and is greatly evolved, so there is always gonna be someone out there who got a shot at someone. Pacquiao is looking like the king of boxing but Mosley/Mayweather can beat him but they will go through hell to do so.

Yeah which means demographically speaking there should be more competition in the weight divisions, not less. I think you're missing the points slightly.

So one person in all of boxing has a real chance of beating them at the moment.?

I think it's fair to say that both sports will run into this problem at times.

BJ there's nobody who you can actually consider a threat to him right now, same with GSP and Silva at middleweight.

Penn can't beat GSP..... GSP wouldn't beat Silva and Silva has a few guys at lightheavy that can give him trouble.

It's really no different than Joe Louis holding the heavyweight belt for 11 years or Bernard Hopkins holding the middleweight title for 10.

bj can't be touched he's going to have to move back up to welter because no one is gonna beat him at 155.GSP i think can be beat and if silva is still fighting at middle he can't be beat there either but if he's fightin at light heavy i think machida and shogun may be able to beat him
