In spite of what everbody says, HBO at the time had demands that he fought certian fighters and Mayweather retired rather than giving to their demands.

Because in a sport where you don't have teammates relying on you or any form of a season, you can retire and unretire at will.

It's generally respected, it's just Floyd they don't like. Manny Pacquiao says God woke him up from a drug and alcohol induced coma, sweating, in a pile of prostitutes, and told him to retire. For whatever reason, that gets a standing ovation and some "Go Pacman!" chants from his fans.

I would bet a lot on the fact that when floyd retired, he always planned to come back. So when someone retires like Floyd, he is up to no good! Its take your pick why you think he did what he did and you wont neccesarily be wrong, Floyd cant prove otherwise.

He wanted to get the pressure off of himself to fight dangerous fighters. He wanted his peers to beat up on each other so he can get the leftovers like vulchers in the serengeti do.

Floyd didnt retire. He took a long break till the division cooled off. And who'd he fight first? a LW.

Please watch another sport. In boxing we don't defend cowardice.

okay, first off, he retired because he wanted to---he was tired of th esport--no matter who he fought, theire was always somebody else he had to beat--this is why you people will only ever be just fans--it's easy to pinpoint out assumptions as to him not wanting to fight cotto and margarito----but always forgetting that arum was in the middle of it all----cotto didn't want to fight floyd--floyd couldn't make him--

cotto saying he fights who his promoter puts in front of him is saying no to floyd because arum never wanted to put cotto in front of floyd---

margarito was just a scapegoat--and he lost to paul williams--paul williams couldn't draw on regular hbo--floyd wan't going back in terms of big fights--he was pushing ahead--shane lost to cotto--so there his chance went again---

cotto was really the only big name fighter with leverage that could be put up against floyd and floyd knew cotto never really wanted to fight him--just a payday---cotto and margarito wanted to fight oscar after floyd fought him--shane wanted hatton--were they bashed for this? no they weren't---

floyd retired on top and how did everybody beat on on each other when cotto lost to margarito? that was it? who else was there? paul williams moved up in weight and was trying to fight at 3 weight classes--and couldn't draw in any of them-lol

and looked terrible in them also--floyd only missed 2008--shane beat margarito in 2009---tony was caught cheating---so how was he considered a top ww with a tainted legacy? he beat cintron, golden jonhson and cotto, possibly by cheating--that took him out of the mayweather sweepstakes along with losing to williams and not drawing to save his life---

floyd took a vacation to give his body a rest--he's been fighting his whole life--give him a break---he's back and he beat the true ww champion in mosley coz manny won a ww title at 145---floyd is really the 8 time world champion in 5 weight classes--he took shane's belt but didn't pay sanctioning fees and wanted to fight manny so he could easily fuk him up really quick---ortiz just beat berto who was undefeated---who else was there to fight besides these 2---cotto? he had a tough fight with clottey and lost to manny and margs---khan? bradley? martinez who was fighting the likes of pavlike at 160--- i mean come on people--

what other fighter you know comes back and beats in a tune up the number 2 p4p fighter in the world who many regarded as the number 1 p4p fighter in the world---and the only reason floyd made him move up was to show oscar how it was truly done against a smaller man--which floyd was himself, don't forget--he did come up from 130lbs...

if oscar could make manny move up, why couldn't floyd make jmm move up---manny got the job done--jmm didn't---had manny fought floyd instead of oscar, he would not have moved up 2 weight classes to do so like jmm did, i guarantee you and you all would have bashed floyd for fighting a smaller man--he's in a no win situation no matter how you spin it---

keep it up floyd--let em hate---

Floyds a coward who retired in his prime to avoid tough compition just like john elway, barry sanders, and jim brown.

Oh and dont forget micheal jordan who retired to avoid an eastern confrence that was heating up!
