  • Which trainer teaches the best defence?

khan needs to look for a great defensive trainer, someone that can teach him the philly shell or something, thats the only way khan will ever be a force.

if he stays with roach hes screwed because hes been fighting the same way for the last 4 or 5 fights.

He was going to hire Mayweather Sr the first time he got knocked out, but he went with Roach instead.

Amir Khan trying to shoulder roll? That would be good for a laugh.

I don't think Khan would be able to adapt to the philly shell style of fighting. The Manny Steward safety first jab and grab would work best for him.

no trainer is taking 25 year old amir khan and turning him into 20 year old wilfred benitez. i'd switch trainers for khan as well, but only if another top flight trainer can be found, and i'd do it primarily to change his surroundings and try something new. you dont want him developing patterns as a losing fighter.

roach's fighters might not go through regularly the motions of the defensive rudiments, but they're taught in the gym how to stay out of trouble. roach's training is based a good deal on situations. he puts his fighters in those situations on the mitts and he shows them how to deal with them.

roach is not to blame for khan's leaky defense. amir's refusal to be mindful defensively is what's responsible for that. when he should have been buying time against garcia he was standing in the pocket and trading. khan is lightning fast. always has been. why is he so easy to hit? he doesnt use his speed to be defensive, and he's not responsible when he uses it offensively. when he does think defense it's almost always AFTER he's been hurt. that's when he flat out runs. why wait until you are starched to worry about defense? roach didnt teach him that.

roach didn't really even teach amir how to fight. boxers develop the key aspects of their styles as youth.

khan has never learned how to deal with a fighter who can handle his speed. with that comes a refusal to believe that your speed won't be enough to deal with these guys. when they get to guys who can box with them and touch them they dont adjust.

khan does not box like a professional. he carries the pace like an amateur. he fights round by round, not being mindful of the big picture.

he does that half assed put your gloves up thing, too. he doesnt even look at punches, he just kind of hopes they dont land. usually they do

pacquiao does it, too, especially now that he's aging and his legs get weary. manny's of course got a granite chin and can weather most any storm, and khan's chin is light light light.

I meant on a permanent basis, as an integral part of his style.
