i've now watched 6 of his feature length films...

watching those apart from being entertaining, was quite educational...

city lights was really funny... the great dictator too...

chaplin is undoubtedly an ATG IMHO... both as a filmmaker and a comedian...

    cinema in it's purest form...

Never really got into his stuff. Probably because I wasn't brought up on it like others have been I suppose.

I just don't think his material has that same timeless value that Laurel and Hardy's does. I could still sit and watch those 2 for hours on end now, brilliance.

Comedy has evolved due to (intangible) modern nutrition and training techniques

          LOL...

there was a battling nelson-joe gans match held several decades ago that went 40+ rounds...

damn! thats like the entire vasquez-marquez quadrilogy in a single fight...

          epic old timers...

              city lights is exquisite comedy...

              "the kid" too...

there are also dozens of short films done by this great cinematic genius...

"the immigrant" stands out among those IMHO...

For a romantic comedy, I found 'City Lights' to be surprisingly poignant.

I also found the tragic and dramatic moments in 'The Kid' to be rather genuine.

Though I've not seen 'The Immigrant', or many other pieces of Chaplin's work. Generally I'm not a fan of slapstick comedy, but in the few Chaplin pieces I have seen there almost always seems to be an underlying and more authentic theme.

Hence my love of 'City Lights'.
