Correct. Probably has a lot to do with education levels being lower in red states combined with higher rates of illegal immigration. However Texas only receives 85 cents back for every dollar they pay in federal taxes, so I'm not sure how that's relevant to the discussion.

As I said in previous post, The Blue State tax base is built mostly off middleman profits not actual production. The lion's share of productive input into the national GDP comes from the Red states and is creatively redistributed to Blue states. From agriculture to mining and oil production. Red states do get back more than Blue states do. However, when it's presented by the left... an incorrect inference is usually included, and important facts are omitted. the bulk of this spending is likely due to military spending, farm subsidies and highway infrastructure. Most of the military bases come from red states.

There are over a hundred thousand federal employees in Texas. Seriously if Texas seceded they would all be unemployed. They would all apply for unemployment insurance which a state run benefit which would be devastating financially.
Additionally every state, including Texas, relies heavily on many forms of Government funds and benefits which would end.
Most states that would do this would be bankrupt inside six months.

Plus the federal Government protects the border between Texas and Mexico. What do you think would happen if the Feds just pulled out and left Texas on it's own? Not a pretty picture.

The Free Market would restructure and allocate resources where they belong. Some jobs need to be lost in order for others to be created. You lose a job in one sector... you can gain it in another. Invisible hand and all that.

Either way...these automatic 'sequester' cuts that they're talking about on the news need to happen. Supposedly they will hurt the defense industry...good. But these are just tiny cuts and not real cuts. We need more draconian Austerity cuts. The idea that we depend on spending borrowed money in order to obtain jobs is Ludicrous.
