what makes metallica and U2 endure?

these guys have been there since the early 80s... they have survived countless fads in music and pop culture as a whole... why are these musical acts still on top and relevant?

any educated opinions out there?

U2 has been around for so long, people forgot that they suck.

Not a U2 fan, but Metallica didn't last. They were finished long ago. Load/Reload was all they had left and even that was borderline garbage.

You want to talk about a band that's lasted? Megadeth. They just keep getting better too.

sold out concerts and still top money makers out there...

Metallica on the other hand were just brilliant.

But they are only still relevant in the sense that they were so huge in their primes and their songs are now considered classics. They can still pack huge crowds, but it's not like they tour nearly as much as they used to.

Also, current mainstream music sucks ass. That's they are fans who get so excited when a new album or tour comes along.

i dig megadeth... but they arent exactly consistent with their outputs too... the album RISK comes to mind...

it wasnt under 3 years, but their most recent studio album was death magnetic which debuted at #1... i think it netted them some record of sorts...

any non- relevant musical act wont be able to do such thing... doncha think?
