  • [HOLY S**T!] The NBA releases new rules for calling Technicals. UNREAL!!!

NBA referees will have more reasons to issue technical fouls next season.

At the referees' annual meeting in Jersey City, N.J., on Thursday, the league announced the guidelines for technical fouls will expand to include "overt" player reactions to referee calls.

Referees have been instructed to call a technical for:

    • Players making aggressive gestures, such as air punches, anywhere on the court.

    • Demonstrative disagreement, such as when a player incredulously raises his hands, or smacks his own arm to demonstrate how he was fouled.

    • Running directly at an official to complain about a call.

    • Excessive inquiries about a call, even in a civilized tone.

In addition, referees have been instructed to consider calling technicals on players who use body language to question or demonstrate displeasure. They can also consider technicals for players who "take the long path to the official", walking across the court to make their case.

"The proper mindset, in every player's mind, is abstinence. That is: to not complain," NBA executive vice president of basketball operations Stu Jackson said. "The focus here is to just play the game. We have a great game. We have great players. We have a great product. Let's focus on executing offense and defense and being highly competitive. Complaining doesn't have a part in our game, and complaining has never changed a non-call to a call, or a call to a non-call."

Pretty soon being black on a Friday will warrant a technical.

there are gonna be so many bogus calls next year.

its all in the referees eyes

a simple roll of the eyes can get you a technical.

its hard to control expression when you are dissatisfied.

            bull****

Stern just wants the bull **** calls most of the NBA refs make less noticeable, he can't have people questioning their calls.

Sort of like game 7 of the NBA Finals this year, they let them play physical for 3 quarters but all of a sudden when the 4th quarter starts LA gets 19 FT's.

I don't know how much longer I can take all this crap, they stretched out the Celtics-Lakers series to 7 games, each game a key player got into foul trouble early and was made ineffective. It's so ****en obvious, **** DAVID STERN!

Joey Crawford is going to have a field day with these new rules.

I wonder how all these players are gonna deal with it, they punch the air and make gestures because they're angry. If you keep on suppressing that anger all it's going to do is build up and explode like a bomb.

Looks like Sheed retired at the right time.

David Stern is a joke. Do people actually believe that Donaghy was the only ref to gamble on the games that he calls. The nba is fixed, certain superstars get special treatment and im done with it.

its david stern's answer to bad officiating. he's trying to mask the problem instead of fixing it. its like a band aid to a gun shot wound.

there are deep rooted problems with nba officiating starting with the number of old referees still active like dick bavetta & joey crawford. there should be a mandatory age retirement in the nba. as you get older, everything gets slower, your reactions, mental faculties. how do you expect 65 & 70 year olds to make split second decisions on the most supremely gifted athletic specimens moving at such a past frenetic pace?

my opinion, the biggest officiating problem is the inconsistency of calls & the shameless ambiguous of rules; defensive 3 seconds, illegal defense (even though you can play zone), hand checking, touch fouls, over the backs, traveling, & superstar calls.

Another big problem is officials in cahoots with players & coaches on the unwritten rules of the game: never calling that final foul on superstar players, never calling a foul even though its a blatant foul on the last second play of end of game situations because they dont want it to end on free throws, & biases towards certain players, owners, & teams.

david stern has done a good job with the external operations of the nba but in terms of improving the actual game, he has failed miserably.
