what does technological advances have to do with the church refusing to change century old traditions and believes for a society who yes has gone backwards! Centuries old traditions like threatening people who challenge church teachings by promoting heliocentrism with torture? Or resisting the use of birth control to a degree that it would rather have millions of people die of AIDS than use condoms?

When people like Kim Kardashian and Lady Gagy have power over millions of people, our society has lost it.

Kardashian and Gaga are rich, with all of the privilege that wealth entails. But if you think that this gives them "power over millions of people" then you need to get off the internet. They have markedly less influence than the Catholic church in the US to say nothing of that dowdy institution's power over the developing world.

Are you paying attention? The Pope has been forced to resign. For covering up. The rape of children. While the church was paying lip service to opposing consensual ****sexual relationships its priests were paying lip service to the genitals of kids in its care and the church helped them do it.

I know you don't know much about catholicism and the church, now I realise you don't know much about history either. It's not surprising. Churches, especially christian ones, like to pretend that the world is worse today than it was yesterday. Churches are inherently reactionary and the default stance for a reactionary is that things were once way better than they are now. It isn't true.

If you want to look at the ultimate in corruption you need look no further than the medieval Catholic church. Have you heard of "indulgences"? Of course not. Indulgences in catholic theology is the absolution of sins following a penitent action, typically a pilgrimage or a payment. In the Middle Ages it became common for indulgences to take the form of cash payments. The church employed people to collect this cash from penitent sinners. That's right, they were taking bribes for Jesus, running a protection racket for your soul.

Society idolises the Kardashians? Are you serious? I think this statement says more about you than it does about society at large. Society idolises the Kardashians in the same way they idolise the contestants on the biggest loser.

The Kardashians are a sideshow. They're cheap entertainment. People look at them as absurd rich idiots and mock them. Of course nobody mocked the rich in the heyday of the church. Mocking the rich would mean being casually murdered by them. No, in the middle ages people would mock the diseased and crippled. Because advanced society and all that.

The catholic church put its reputation above the safety of children in its care (entitled, selfish) and allowed rapists of youngsters to move freely about and continue committing crimes (sex driven) while at the same time committing fraud and acts of avarice to line its coffers by sending Mother Theresa to solicit donations from dictators for example, or shaking down wealthy sinners for cash indulgences (money hungry).

When the church has not been expending all its resources battling human progress it has been indulging in the very vices you claim it attempted to prevent.

Yet scientist create atomic bombs and missiles that are intended to kill hundreds of thousands of people.

Tuskegee Study was pretty bad don't you think?

Scientist go to 3rd world countries to test out their studies on the poor helpless people killing thousands in the process

Yet if all anyone did was listen to you, they'd think scientists are the best thing ever created.

And yet without science where would we be? A meagre starving population at the mercy of the weather and the caprices of disease, ministered by a church that laid claim not only to our miserable lives but to our eternity.
