  • Para's vs Royal Marines

Who do you think is the better reg/corps and why? I personally believe Bootnecks to be a far smarter unit with more advanced training, a great mentality for phys and an all round better bunch of lads. On the other hand however, the Para's are a far more aggressive regiment, which in todays warfare is going to come in extremely handy. Both have good arguments for and against. What are your opinions?

Depends on the different squads, marines are better than para’s and vice versa. To be fair they are basically the same but the marines specialise in been deployed from the water and the para’s specialise in been deployed from the air.

For a civilian to say who is the better is out of place as different corps does their own separate thing.
You can join the Parachute Regiment straight out of Civvie Street, you just have to do an extra selection called PRAC (Parachute Regiment Aptitude Course). They are nowhere near the same? Ones part of the Navy, the others part of the Army. Para's havent been parachuted into a warzone since ww2 but Bootnecks use beach assaults/landings regulary out in theatre (obviously not in Op Telic or Herrick). In my opinion i'd say the Para's are tougher than the Marines just the Marines are alot smarter.

A very high percentage of SAS soldiers come from the Paras.

          Paras > Marines.

Yes you are right a very high percentage of soldiers in the SAS come from the Para's. But an even higher percentage of soldiers in the SBS come from the Marine's. Your opinion is flawed.

I saw a marine get knocked out by a pal of mine who has no fighting training and weighed about 10 stone at the time. If he tried that on my pal who used to be a para he'd get bumraped.
