  • Comments Thread For: Golden Boy Tried To Persuade Hatton To Take Easier Foe

When Ricky Hatton (45-3, 32KOs) was pondering the possibility of a comeback, Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer had advised him to take an easier opponent for his first fight back.

Hatton, after three and a half years away from the ring, returned on Saturday night at the Manchester Arena and took on former WBA welterweight champion Vyacheslav Senchenko (33-1, 22KOs). Hatton was ahead on the cards, but he was coming apart in the later rounds and a shot to the liver sent him down for the full count in the ninth. Hatton retired after the contest.

He did it right. He wanted to know if there was anything left and Senchenko, in all reality, is pretty low on the competative pole. Katsidis might have been an easier fight, but Hatton still would have been unproven. I don't understand what Golden Boy plans to gain by saying that they could have set up what amounts to a fix. This just makes them sound crooked.

he should have taken a soft fight or 2 before a bigger fight. 33-1 former WBA champion was not the soft touch he needed. it should have been vs a tough journeyman & then see where you go from there if he wins.

Blessing in disguise, if he beat a few bums then fought someone good he'd have got seriously hurt.

          L-M-A-O!

How ISN'T a guy who got pulverized by the likes of Pauli Malinaggi a "soft touch".

katsidis would have beaten him up. senchenko may have been a bit too good for hatton, but at least he's not the type of boxer to really put the screws on his opponent.

Did anyone actually watch Paulie vs Senchenko? Ppl keep saying Paulie dominated and knocked him out, pulverized him, etc etc. Paulie literally just hit him with jabs all night even a soft puncher if he hits u enough or catches u badly on an angle can cause a bad cut and swelling which led to the stoppage, it wasn't a virtuoso beat down of some kind, he was just effective with a jab and damaged his eye lol get a grip ppl

I didn't mean to low rate Katsidis, I was just wondering why Golden Boy would say that they could arrange something or accomodate one guy over another. In this case Katsidis is getting no consideration, he's just the meat getting thrown into the grinder, to hear Golden Boy tell it.
