  • my trainer says I'm too stiff...

my trainer have made comments about me being too stiff, he told me to stop doing pushups, my chest is already popping out. I took this advice, I'm still stiff, I've been doing neck workouts with weights. My sets/reps goes: warm up set, 100 rep with a 12 1/2 pound weight, next 4 sets, 50 reps with a 25 pound weight. A total of 5 sets. Am I doing it too much? I'm down to 147 pounds, 5'7" in height.

Any advice on what I should work on more of? I jog/run 3 days a week, go to the boxing gym 3 days a week as well, every other day. When I run, I just run for close to 40 minutes, about 3 miles or so, with 3 pound hand weights strap on each both hands. When I go to the gym, I do my "standard" 3 round on each of the workouts I do: stretch/warm up for 10 minutes, shadow-box for 3 rounds, get on the heavy bag for 3 rounds, upper cut bags 3 rounds, speed bag for 3 rounds, 3 rounds on the double end bag. When time allows, 3 rounds on the skipping rope, but I usually skip this as I do run the next day when I'm not in the boxing gym, skipping rope/running is always the same, isn't it? I do my sit-ups 3 times a week as well after I run usually. 30 reps of 7 sets.

Weird, i didn't know a trainers comment about someone being 'TOO STIFF' meant he was physically TOO much.

When i first started boxing i also heard that comment. But for me it meant i was too stiff while in the ring sparring. For me, it meant to loosen up and relax.

I have no clue wtf ur trainers talking about. The way i'd figure, the more in shape you are... the better.

id reccomend not using the hand weights when you run. I carry a water bottle and allways end up feeling stiff in the shoulder of the hand that was carrying it. try it at least once if you dont feel less stiff then dont listen to me and continue using the hand weights

this is what he has to be talking about. too much weightlifting can make you too stiff in the ring so you are slower and tire faster

is the 12 lbs for the neck or push ups?

Nothing wrong with building your neck up, if your chest is getting big from push ups thats because you are taking in to much protein.

I usually go for about 300-450 push ups in sets of 50, my chest isn't big and bulky but it's pretty cut. I imagine if I ate protein shakes all day it would be huge.

i am not sure but you might be uncoordinated you are not swinging the right way which will allow your body to get stiff, when you stand and hit do you look like lou savarese at all,he was a big lug that was stiff
