Are there any fighters that you know so much about? That you love to research about and learn about and talk about?

Mine is Joe Frazier, I honestly think that no one on these boards know as much about Smokin' Joe as i do.

I've never become obsessed any one particular fighter, so I claim no expertise. But of all the past fighters, Sonny Liston is the one who interests me the most. There are some really outrageous stories out there about him. One I like in particular would have to be censored to tell here.

Probably Liston and Hagler. I don't know much about any fighter, but I know more about these two than I know about others.

Okay, I'll try. But I read it a long time ago and it involves a lot of paraphrasing which may take away from it. One good thing is that I can give a source for the story. It came from Teddy Brenner's book, "Only the Ring Was Square".

Brenner was a longtime boxing publicist, matchmaker, etc. When Liston was champion, he was assigned to escort him to London for an appearance. When they got to Liston's hotel room, Brenner asked him if there was anything he needed. Sonny growled that he wanted some female company. Brenner went out and brought back an English lady. He also sent up a bottle of Scotch and a plate of finger sandwiches.

The next morning when Brenner returned, he heard them screaming all the way down the hall. He asked what was wrong. The lady said that Liston "****ed the **** out of her all night and only got paid 10 quid" (I'm totally making up the English currency because I don't remember). A shocked Brenner said "Sonny, that's $25!". Liston said "I know, and she ate all the mother****ing sandwiches".
