It's not the government's job to "litigate" and make things "fair". That's a bunch of BS. The governments job is to provide protection in the form of fire, police, and military. Maybe a few small things after that. You are British so this concept of government solving problems is probably natural to you.

Believe it or not, poor people in this country already have access to healthcare, it's called medicare. This 46 million uninsured number that Obama likes to throw around includes about 12 million illegals (not really sure why they should have a right to free health care,) and a lot of people my age that don't qualify for free health care, but don't feel like paying for health insurance, because they never get sick.

I can't even argue with you here. I don't know if your stats are right or not, but even if they are, I really can't see young guys like yourself making up 34 million. No American I've ever talked to has been happy with the system, although I do discount anecdotal evidence, unless it is mass anecdotal evidence.

And if your family makes below a certain amount, you are automatically elligible for grants and loans that will allow you to attend a state university with enough money to pay for tuition, books, room and board, etc. And as long as you keep your grades up, this will continue, even through grad school.

Heaving a ****load of debt on a young person doesn't seem a very clever system to me. A lot of poorer people are put off by this. The debt I'm in because of University is minute compared to the fees I saw for even lower American colleges and I did research maybe studying in your country for a year.

It's not even a good ideal. Communism is the worst form of idealism, and if i were not cynical about it put in opractice, it would theoretically be the best system and everyone would be better off. Commie nations never went through the epock of captialism and changed from feudalism. Any rich capitalist country's people would be better off with all that wealth spread out. but in reality the fat pigs would keep it for themselves in a two-tiered corrupt soviet-style system.

Islam offers the best solution for egalitarianism. Zakat is the third pillar of Islam and requires 2.5% of all hourded weealth to be given to the central bank for social welfare of human beings. I heard if only all the greedy rich Saudi's did that, it would end extreme poverty worldwide. Accept Islam for your salvation.

Something needs to be done when uninsured individuals go to the ER and the hospital has to foot the bill. There needs to be universal coverage but not a nationalized system. Not sure exactly how to get there.

Sure everyone can get in and examined but if you need specialized care your health care system(government provided) is awful. I don't have the stats infront of me but if I get around to it I'll post a great Walter Williams article. I wish all muslims would just blow themselves up and do the rest of the world a favor.

Do you even understand what you just said? I'd like you to explain how I'm a hypocrite and I'm a little worried for you if you're insulted in a discussion about politics. I notice of course, that you failed to address the points I made. If you disagree with me, why not show me why? I just said exactly what I thought about Jim's post and about the right wing of politics generally, I have no hate towards anything. In fact, I find it more than a little ironic that I am being accused of hatred by a neo-conservative. I am no Socialist in the strictest sense either to counter your next accusation (as if it were an insult anyway), more centre-left. it needs improving and the money could be managed better, but at least you don't get phone calls from insurance companies saying you have to choose between one of two amputaed fingers. The basic healthcare is good and easy to access, even for illegal immigrants!
