Just started training. Not looking to go pro or anything, but I want to buy nice equip that will last, instead of buying cheap garbage only to end up replacing it. Hittin the bags/pads and will eventually work my way up to sparring. Any recommendations on what types of gloves to buy?

If you have the money buy rival ultra bag gloves.

You also want to get handwraps to wear under your gloves
when your ready to spar you will need a cup, headgear, mouthpiece and sparring gloves you can get these items at Ringside or Title

basically just go on titleboxing.com and look at the high performance range there. my best bet is go for Grant / Everlast gloves.
and take into account toolboxdiver's comment about protective gear... absolutely crucial! ; mouthpiece, handwraps/innergloves, abdominal protection, headgear and sparring gloves. proper ringwear wear would help like boxing shorts n boots but i dont think its absolutely essential for friendly sparrin.
*handwraps/innergloves - u best bet is handwraps, but make sure u look up instructions on the internet on how to wrap. innergloves are basically an alternative to handwraps but barely any1 uses them and rightly so cos they suck.
all the items ive talked of u can find at titleboxing.com
welcome to boxingscene and good luck with watever u plan to do

The Rival Ultras look nice but are kinda pricey. Are they that much of an upgrade over the regular Rival bag gloves? I searched about them online and it seems they are a new product. A few people are saying Rival is really good.
Those Grants look nice and more desirable price wise, but they are 12oz - wouldnt I be better off with 14oz bag gloves? Thats what I have been using at the gym. I weigh 155. Everybody seems to be recommending staying away from Everlast gloves.
I was planning on scooping a 10 pack of the Ringside brand wrapsLast edited by UncleLeo; 03-03-2008, 01:42 AM.
