  • Comments Thread For: Gennady Golovkin is 'No. 1 Choice' For Callum Smith, Says Hearn

Eddie Hearn, promoter for WBA super middleweight champion Callum Smith (25-0, 18 KOs), has tabbed Gennady Golovkin (38-1-1, 34 KOs) is the "number 1 choice" for a mega-fight at Anfield in May. Back in September, Smith shocked the odds by knocking out number one seed George Groves to win the World Boxing Super Series super middleweight tournament. Groves was regarded as the top dog of the weight class.

No problem with that match up, that is a BIGGER and more dangerous Challenge than Rocky Fielding so he would be One Upping Canelo a bit here

Jermall Charlo has run Canelo and Golovkin out of the 160lb division. They made all this money off the fans but don’t want to give the fans a good fight to watch. No one wants to see Canelo/Golovkin 3 #whatswrongwithboxing

And that's the end of the story for Callum Smith.

You think so? You think GGGs power will carry up? I think Smith can win with the jab.

There had to be one, didn't there?

Jermall seems like a fine fighter, but he hasn't actually done much at MW yet, whereas Mundo is universally recognised as one of the best (and by most as the best) at 168.

Until Jermall's done a bit more Smith has to be recognised as both a tougher opponent and one who brings far more money and prestige.

Let's just hope this **** can actually get made.

EDIT: You are right that Jermall's getting the ****ty end of the stick though, which sucks. He's in a similar position to where GGG was a few years ago - too much risk, not enough reward, except Jermall ain't even got a strap to play on or the HBO hype machine behind him. Dude just needs to keep getting in the ring and keep knocking dudes out till the opportunities come. Lets hope Uncle Al will get behind him enough to make some **** happen.

How can you be this delusional? Wtf does Charlo even have to offer. Why would Golovkin face him instead of WBA and Ring Super Middleweight champion Callum Smith ?
