Disturbing Video of Girl Getting Beat Up
Police in Cardiff are leading the hunt for a teenage girl shown being beaten unconscious in a bathroom in a “horrendous” viral video.
Officers said they feared for the life of the girl, who is shown in the 52-second clip being punched, kicked and stamped on before her attacker – also a teenage girl – pours bathroom products over her unconscious body.
A third girl looks on and then also takes part in the attack.
The video, which has gone viral on Blackberry Messenger (BBM), has been given the name “Beth and Molly Fight”.
It came to light on Tuesday after a concerned parent contacted police officers in Cardiff.
Detective Inspector Shane Ahmed of Cardiff CID, who is leading the investigation, said he had no idea if the girl had survived the attack.
“In the video this girl is being absolutely beaten in a bath,” he said.
“She is repeatedly punched, kicked, her neck is stamped on, her head is hit against the bath.
“The attack appears to continue after she falls unconscious, with bathroom detergents poured over her.
“It is a horrendous, prolonged attack and it is made even more worrying by the fact that we don’t know who the victim is, where the attack has taken place or even if she is alive and breathing now.
“We are aware the footage has been distributed in the Cardiff area in the last 24 hours, but we don’t know if it happened in Cardiff.
“We can tell from the labels on the products in the bathroom that this appears to have taken place somewhere in the UK, and we have contacted other forces to make them aware.
“Our priority is to identify the victim and ensure her welfare.”
BBM, an instant messaging application for Blackberry phones, was used by gangs in London in 2011 to help organise riots following the death of Mark Duggan.
Officers investigating this particular video said they had “no evidence” to suggest the filmed attack was gang-related.
A 16-year-old girl arrested in connection with the incident has been released after officers established that she was not one of the girls in the footage. A police spokeswoman said no further action would therefore be taken against her.
The girl being attacked is seen in the video wearing pyjamas and the girl assaulting her is wearing dark clothes, with black and white patterned ankle boots and her dark hair tied up in a bun. She also appears to be wearing distinctive false eyelashes.
Detectives are now liaising with other police forces across the UK to establish if they are aware of the footage.
