  • Comments Thread For: Chagaev vs Meehan Early Results From Germany

Newly-crowned WBC super featherweight champion Vitaly Tajbert (20-1, 6 KOs) retained his full regalia for the first time in an unspectacuar fashion by getting a technical nod over WBC #15 Mexican veteran Hector Velazquez (51-15-2, 35 KOs). Tajbert controlled the pace and the flow of the fight for the first eight rounds using his amateur background to continuously frustrate his 35-year old foe. In round nine, Velazquez went forward and used his head improperly initiating a headbutt that resulted in a severe cut of Tajbert. The German fighter was unable to continue this clash and, after judges' scorecards had been collected, a unanimous technical decision was announced in favour of the defending titlist. Velazquez got his second consecutive shot at championship belt despite being 0-2 in his last fights. Tajbert was awarded with the full title after previous champion Humberto Soto had moved up in weight to capture the WBC belt at lightweight limit.

Düsseldorf-based Polish heavyweight Marcus Tomala (7-2, 3 KOs) avenged the first of his losses outpointing former German amateur standout Sebastian Koeber (19-2, 13 KOs) unanimously over six rounds. Previously, Tomala dropped a split decision (although over ten rounds) to Koeber in October 2009 allowing his opponent to acquire an interim version of the German title. This time scores were 58-56 (twice) and 59-56 - for the Pole, who bounced back after suffering two losses in his last two bouts. Koeber, on the other hand, is on the downslide being previously outpointed also by upset specialist Zack Page in January.

Hungarian flyweight Pal "Pimpa" Bedak moved up to 8-0 with 5 KOs after the third-round stoppage of Chilean import Pedro Cardenas (12-7, 7 KOs).

2009 welterweight amateur world champion Jack Culcay-Keth continued his rise in paid ranks destroying Brazilian journeyman Isac Tavares (15-9, 5 KOs) at 2:23 of the very first round. Culcay-Keth is now 4-0 with 3 wins coming inside the distance.

I can't believe the WBA is making Chagaev-Meehan a title elminator. Is the WBA the worse abc organization out of the big 4.

Chagaev just showed his skills are far better than Meehan's, I wonder if Haye will duck Chagaev like Valuev did, refusing to fight him due to his hep antigen.

LOL first of all the fight was pretty boring Chagaev has no power to put a 40 year old fighter to sleep. I think Haye will kill the p4p fighter "white Tyson" Chagaev. Come on back to reality the Heavyweight Division is very weak.
