  • Is Mayweather in the same bracket as Ali and Tyson now?

I'm talking about star power and influence.

As long as I've been alive, Ali and Tyson have stood head and shoulders above other boxers in terms of being pop culture icons.

There have been many other boxers who were equally as skilled and big stars in their own right from the previous eras compared to Ali/Tyson. But Ali and Tyson were household names everywhere in the world.

Floyd has been part of two of the biggest fights in boxing history and regardless of your opinion of those fights or Floyd in general, is it fair to say he's reached that pop culture status of Ali and Tyson?

Yes I think that Floyd is one of the most popular boxers of all time. His skills are also up there too.

Nope, but if he raped a young girl he might just be.

Yea sure. He will ever top Ali tho but Ali's influence outside the ring in unrivaled by most athletes.

I don't think he was as important as Ali or Tyson because they were the HWT champion of the world at a time when that meant everything in sports. He doesn't have their influence or star power because the HWT champ was seen as the "baddest man on the planet".

If Floyd lost it would be news. When ALi or Tyson 1st lost, it was the top story on the front page around the world. IMO Floyd doesn't occupy that space.

He's pretty much disliked in general but a huge name. Maybe not quite on Tyson and Ali's level of worldwide fame though and definitely not known for all the right reasons.

Another thing is that his domestic abuse issues never seem to go away due to the times we live in. People are still writing articles about it this week and on social media you get a load of people still mentioning about how he hits women. Tyson was convicted of rape but it's pretty much forgotten/ignored in the eyes of the public and it's not just down to the fact it was a long time ago, it's because it happened in a time where news and opinion wasn't in our face and in social consciousness all day every day via the internet.

if Tyson was fighting now everyone would be talking about him raping n beating women, if ali was fighting hed be called racist, they only reason most of u posters use these guys is to down Floyd. one day another great will come along and u will all use Floyd to downplay his success.
