Can USA Boxing benefit from studying amateur boxing training techniques abroad?

Is it possible to merge 2 or 3 different styles in boxing like all other Martial Art disciplines do?

Great questions, I believe so. The best boxers on the planet actually do mix it up.

The only problem with the amateur system is it's scoring as well as their complete disregard for body work.

      Of course.

What's the elite set up like in the US?

For example, here in the UK, team GB train like professional athletes at the English institute of sport in Sheffield.

They have several top coaches as well as dedicated S&C specialists, Physiotherapists, nutritionists, sports psychologists etc.

Furthermore, the boxers are funded so the don't have to work. There job effectively is to train with the goal of bringing home medals.

I know many other top am box nations have similar set ups (i.e. Cuba, Ukraine, Russia, Kazakhstan etc).

Not sure why USA am boxing appears to be struggling in comparison to their previous success.

I have watched quite a bit of the top young (i.e. 12-15 year olds) boxers from the US on Youtube, and on the whole, their skill set appears to be well above that of the top UK juniors.

Maybe they need to focus more on the European am box style - which essentially is geared towards the computer scoring system.

The interest in boxing from pre teens hasn't grown as it did in the past!!
Boxing has always relied on its "stars" to be able to enlist the young generation to compete. Theres also fewer gyms in the inner cities than ever before. If theres no companies to back the gym and the grants are minimal or non exsisting the kids have no where to go!
The best young athletes in America are involved in Junior Football now also basketball is popular in the inner cities because you need a ball and a hoop on a court, boxing has way more demands as far as a trainer, facilities and then equipment!
As far as the main facility the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. was finished in 1979 (I think) and I was a team coach in 1980-81-82. The facility was fantastic at that time, how it measures up today I wouldn't know, thats over thirty years ago!
I know that the trainers participating then were some of the best the country had lead by Mr. Pat Nappi from Alb. N.M. who knew boxing inside and out! All the winners from the national tournys were invited (Golden Gloves/Silver Mittens/P.A.L (police athletic leaques), USA/ABF, Ohio State Fair.
I do believe the talent is still here because its been like that in this country since its inception but the emphasis is off boxing for sometime now!
Its always been owned by the refuges that have embraced the States since the beginning of the past century. The different ethnic groups participated in boxing and had their own distinctive eras. Theres still many new cultures arriving here but their not looking at the sport for salvation, the sport isn't avalible as it once was! Ray
