  • Is Arum Responsible For Making Mayweather, Dela Hoya and Pacquiao Stars?

There's a lot of hate on Arum.

But I've been thinking, that Mayweather and Dela Hoya should be thanking this guy for making them stars. I don't think there's another promoter that have the kind of abilities and resources to take someone like these two and Pacquiao and make them the big stars that they are now.

If Mayweather and Dela Hoya were with Gary Shaw or DiBella, do you think they would have made it this big? The same for Pacquiao, he was under Gary Shaw and Murad, but he didn't make it big until he was with Arum.

    What's your take on this?

Top Rank made DLH a star, Pacquiao and Floyd became stars when they beat DLH.

I think it is definitely the case, but Arum has already reaped his rewards for making them. Top Rank has the most resources of the big players in promoting fights, so they are going to produce stars. Arum undoubtedly helped to make them stars, but how much gratitude does an actor owe their agent? They already got their gratitude, it comes in a percentage of the boxer's earnings.

You guys love pac so much and see him as such a good guy that you associate everyone around him as being the "good guys." With the Mayweathers being "bad guys." Things are a quite muddled grey yet you guys still see everything in black and white.

There are people who don't give respect & give gratitude to SENIOR CITIZENS.

Bob Arum was indeed the Promoter who give Pacman the Golden opportunity to shine in Boxing;Without him the Dela Hoya vs Mayweather Jr fight won't ever happen.

It's only natural to wage HATE Campaign against Arum the Promoter, because of Envy as well as, Insecurity.

I understand it's a business and Arum probably don't care about the hate.

But for these guys to maybe just step back and actually see the steps that got them to where they are. I would like to see a little respect for the people that got them that far. And not just Arum, I'm sure there are the old trainers and people that supported them thru the years.

Again it was Arum that got them those fights.

Their promotion is also always a big time event. If it was Shaw or DiBella they would have had those fights in some indian casino in some small time place somewhere. I don't think they're capable of the same kind of promotions.

I have a hard time having respect for boxing promoters no matter how old they are. Boxing and wrestling promoters have always been criminals and con men. The sport has gotten cleaner the further it has gotten away from guys like Don King and Bob Arum. So to honor guys who fix matches, bribe organizations, and have even killed men just doesn't seem right to me.

In many other regards boxers like ODLH and Mayweather reached such levels of superstardom despite their promoters.

they weren't manufactured stars, they all had talent
they coulda all been stars/champions without ever working with him
Oscar and Floyd outgrew his influence and went out on their own
but Arum did guide them to the top
as a guy who barely speaks English, Pac's stuck with him
