  • Shadowbox questions

When shadowboxing i see alot of people doing half range at different speeds. However isnt it not better just to do full range as to get it as close as possible to a real fight?
And what do you imagine in front of you the person is doing that makes you react in shadowboxing?
And whats the recommended speed to do?

"half range"? do you mean not fully extended arms?

I never taught to fully extend because you want your punches to land prior to extension so they have the most power you can generate. You need to punch though the target so when it lands its not fully extended!

You can shadow and go through your blocks, slips, counters etc or shadow with a partner and react to each other at a distance. As for speed you can work at different paces depending on what your working on. Move slower when learning something and increase the pace as you learn! Ray.

I usually start off at just below half speed until I'm warmed up then I speed things up to about 75% to 80%.
