  • Mexican Middleweights

I've been a boxing fan for over 30 years. I can't think of too many decent Mexican Middleweight fighters. Plenty below that but once you get to 150, forgetaboutit.

But nowadays Mexicans have different dietary habits, lifestyle changes (less kids which is bad for the American economy) etc etc so now we have an influx of decent Mexican Middleweight prospects. I lived in San Diego for many years so have an affinity for Mexican fighters/people. I always keep an eye out for up & comers. Historically, Mexican fighters usually had a couple of early losses on their record from tough match ups. Things are changing now.

Aside from Chavez (I don't understand the hatred of him. He's decent, not his dad's level but who is?) there's also the solid Marco Antonio Rubio who would be a paper world champ if he was from Britain or Germany.

But there appears to be so many decent young guys coming up. I haven't had the chance to see them yet but glancing through their records alone there's.... (thanks Boxrec)

Gilberto Ramirez Sanchez. 21(18)-0. Only 20 years old. He's fought a few bums but there's a lot older & higher ranked fighters who have fought worse opposition.

Marcos Reyes. 24(21)-0-1. 24 years. A loss often tells us more than all the wins put together. Marcos's loss came when he was 22 against an experienced fighter. He's been in tough a few times.

Jorge Cota. 12(11)-0. 24. Great result against Yuri Boy - who is almost as old as me. BIG test against Rubio at the end of the month. Can he do what Lemieux couldn't?

Other worthy mentions that some of you may have seen....

    Mauricio Perez. 7(5)-1-0. 20.
Rogelio Medina. 27(21)-2. 23. Stopped twice by fighters mentioned above.
    Geraldo Rojas. 8(5)-0. Untested.
    Bruno Sandoval. 6(5)-0. Ditto.

I know we have a lot of knowledgeable Mexican fight fans on here. Anyone shed any light on these fellas?

I know they are not middleweights now but the Benavidez bros too are going to be in the Heavier Weight classes.
