This is true, but I also think theres an appeal to seeing an MMA fight that has a good mix of everything. Or an MMA fighter who manages to blend everything together well. Theres so many more facets at play that it makes stylistic match ups more interesting and everything more unpredictable.

It’s funny because you guys said the same thing about a decade ago. “Once Mayweather/Pacquiao retires, boxing will struggle” but guess what. Mayweather hasn’t boxed in a meaningful boxing match in years, and boxing is still here and I would argue is on the way up.

McGregor had to come over to boxing for a big payday and he wants to stay in boxing because UFC can’t offer him the kind of money boxing can.

Dana White is trying very hard to get into boxing. Why would he want to get into a “dying sport?” UFC 4 is going to feature Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua. Why would they feature boxers in a UFC game if boxing is dying?

The best PPV numbers still belong to boxing.

      Yeah I understand that.

Agreed. The notion that boxing will ever "die" (how would that even work?) is very far fetched. Theres always going to be places with a historical/cultural connection to it plus it has a strong infrastructure with the olympics etc which means theres a steady stream of new boxers coming along at all times. Guys like Lopez and Ryan right now have a fair bit of star potential and could easily be around another 10+ years.

The thing I find ironic about "Boxing is dying" "Boxing is dead"...
Why are boxers making more money now than ever before???

Elite level boxers are FAR FAR superiorly paid than mma fighters it is not even close or comparible and boxers careers generally are much longer and can cash in much more. The only billionaire fighter ever is Floyd Mayweather.

The young crop of boxing talent around the world imo is very very good. I don't mind at all if people like mma. I just look at Boxing and think damn the future content of this sport is going to be very very bright.

I think it is very important to understand how much money top level boxers make because the name of the sport is literally "Prize Fighting."

It was Wilder/Ortiz going against iirc the lowest drawing UFC PPV since 2004 to be fair, the headliner was a pointless womens fight. I dont blame him.

To play devils advocate though - remember when Canelo/Kovalev got delayed for an hour while a UFC fight was played on the big screens in the arena?

The Khabib fight was underwhelming at best.

He outstruck a guy who was meant to be better than him on the feet, all around dominated him, kept up the pressure and then made him tap in the 2nd round. It wasnt an epic back and forth battle (I dont think many expected it to be) but it was a pretty ****ing impressive dominant performance, and came at the end of an insane night of fights. Best UFC card of the year and one of the better ones historically imo especially with the significance of Khabib retiring at the end of it.

Yup. I couldn’t understand why some MMA pundits were claiming this was a 50/50 fight. Dan hardy included.

Justin sucks. He throws telegraphed punches that loop around half the solar system and back. He throws punches like my mate Dave clutching a kebab in one hand after a night of beer.

There just aren’t any elite fighters at LW other than him

                    • Apples and oranges.

UFC is a different sport but puts out a superior product because they are the de-facto major league of their sport. Boxing has no such similar entity.
