Open your phone, open google maps and go to "your places"

Google maps has tracked every single place you have been to, every country city and hotel, restaurant landmark etc for the last half decade.

If you look at anything on the internet, the next day you'll have a personalized ad for it. If you clicked a youtube video about rainbow flip flops, you'll get an ad for rainbow flip flops the next day.

How did we allow these insitutitions to gain so much access to every part of our lives. There is also a camera and a microphone in nearly every square yard. If you're on your phone, you're holding a camera and microphone and gps tracking device right now.

And people still use android with google services at the heart of it........but they got their device cheap, so thatís alright!

It's getting better as there are some laws on the books starting to prevent some of this but Europe is way ahead of the US on this.

You could shut off location services if you don't want to be tracked but Google was actually sued because people did, and they were still tracked due to faulty implementation of the software.

FULL DISCLOSURE: I have been in this business for the last 20 years.

It's also possible your location was cached (shown from previous usage).

It's a big lawsuit, but then again Google and other big tech firms have really good lawyers.

It's a big issue. Location services can be extremely valuable (ie money making) but the privacy issues are finally coming to bear.

Honestly, when I was at Google, the CEO actually said to us in a meeting, if you are doing nothing wrong, you have nothing to worry about and I just thought, this guy understands nothing about how people value privacy and how wrong that statement was.
this is some scary shyte, because govts and corporations love control over people, and basically when you have a situation where someone like facebook ceo or lets say a politician or more likely the director of the NSA gets used to having this kind of control over the general population's lives it becomes an entitlement and it's impossible to take away. we are an entitlement based society and the entitlements of the super-wealthy and directors of social institutions have big plans for the future that include much more control than what we're seeing now. the trick is going to be how they are going to get us to agree to it.
i hope the europeans can manage to peel back some of the internet and camera monitoring, but a german friend of mine explained how all the ceo's of the security camera corporations are best friends of the top politicians, they have already figured something out if any anti-surveillance laws manage to pass

lol, social media addiction is just like drug addiction, it might feel "good" to use meth or fentanyl but the stuff rots you out from the inside. the price of getting high becomes more and more serious when drugs (or any other addiction) turns on you and then is taking more and more. this facebook / google surveillance thing is just like how a guy with no morals sees his niece has a smokin' hot body like a young carrie stevens, and decides to get her hooked on drugs so he can pimp her out. make no mistake, we are the commodity to be bought and sold in the new capitalist world

It's true. People would rather have convenience, and be able to do things easily and simply, than to have privacy.

way too many troll threads.. slow down. i am familiar with google, tracking, and big data.

i go out all the time without my phone, and i think you probably cannot do it.. you are not your phone, but young dudes can not log off, or leave the phone at home.. any way. I gotta go to work now.

Another weird ad occurrence that I remember is that I was reading a graphic novel on my tablet that had hot air balloons in it.

And then then the next day I got an ad for hot air balloon tours.

                  WHAT THE **** GOOGLE.
