The war is just progressing at a steady pace, with Russia slowly but surely advancing. Occasionally they lose control of one area but it doesn't make any difference to the overall picture.

The only reason people on either side freaked out about the time is because of the media in the West using the power of suggestion to make populations think that Russia should just waltz on in and take every city without any resistance. But that was definitely a calculated deception because of the numbers and level of defense of the Ukrainian forces.

Also saying that Russia attempted to take Kiev but "got beaten back" is also a lie because they didn't have the sort of numbers they would need for an operation like that. And because obviously they didn't actually attempt to take it, they used their forces to concentrate Kiev's forces there, then withdrew to support the main objective of the Donbas.
