A Russian-installed official in Kherson sought safety in a five-star hotel in Russia as Ukrainian troops launched their counter-offensive in the southern city.
In a series of videos on Telegram, Kirill Stremousov, who was appointed deputy leader of Kherson by Moscow, reassured residents "everything is fine" and that he would "continue to travel around Kherson" amid a surge in fighting on the southern frontline.
Mr Stremousov also compared Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to Hitler and claimed Ukrainian troops had suffered defeats in Kherson.
However, analysis of the videos and the backdrop have since revealed they were filmed at the Marriott Hotel in Voronezh, southwestern Russia.
