You think nato is regretting it's decision to expand because of this ukraine debacle?

This was the best thing nato could hope for.

It revitalized nato. It revitalized nato mission. Every nato member is upping its defense budget.

2 quite vital nations who were previously neutral with strategic importance and decent militaries are about to join because of this. Finland and Sweden.

I dont know how much nato paid Vladimir putin but it was worth every penny. Lol

      And on your china thing.

      China is already surrounded.

Japan and South Korea are us allies and have us troops.

Taiwan isn't an official ally but us ships already base there.

Philippines is US ally and has some us troops and expanding on that is easy because we had major basing there before.

      Australia goes without saying.

Vietnam, last I read, are about to or already hosting u.s. navy ships. That will only expand..

Monroe doctrine was actually enforced by the british. US didn't have much of a navy/army at the time. It was a US doctrine helped enforced by the mighty royal navy.

      That's how geopolitics work.
US is in the Pacific, surrounding China? Depends on your definition, there are no large US military presence within the vicinity of China's borders. Vietnam's history with China has always been rocky, but even they don't want to poke the bear by having US military in Vietnam again. And US ships are actually in Taiwan? You sure about that? As in stationed there?

Arming ukraine is not just to defeat Russia.

It is a message to china.
Meh, we'll see if the US can defend Taiwan in the future. War game simulations on it don't look too good for the US right now.

Have you checked the map recently? Have you seen the Russian decoy withdrawal at Kharkiv? Another great chess move by the red army!

Of course they're not our friends. But the US should leave well enough alone. Instead of trying to establish a hegemony in the region, trying to contain a great power, which inevitably leads to military conflict. This might sound crazy, but there are people that doesn't like these conflicts the US seems to be getting in.

It depends how hard Taiwan is willing to fight.

If they roll over, there's nothing us can do.

But if they fight and are defiant and last long enough for aid and help to come who knows?

War game simulations usually overestimate our enemies and underestimate our capabilities.

US capability far exceeds what the numbers of our fighters and tanks and ships can do.

It's because of the non combat support assets we have that are force multipliers for our weapons.

Wargames usually simulate weapons vs weapons or soldier vs soldier.

U.S. has a lot of support that are force multipliers that other countries even the Soviets before and the Chinese now don't field in large quantity/as good quality.

But that's what we're suppose to do.

What we do now affects decades from now.

That's why every great power prepares to fight other powers that can rival them.

They might attack, but they won't do it now, and they won't do it full scale like Russia did.

The Chinese are smart. They know destroying Taiwan would just give them a headache long term since they would have to pump massive amount of money into rebuilding Taiwan.

They're also not as corrupt and naive as Putin and his people. They know the Taiwanese won't welcome them with flowers like the Russians thought they'd be welcomed in Ukraine.

I'm very curious how Chinese approaches the Taiwan problem given the current circumstances, especially the US reaction to this Invasion.

This is like boxing. Fresh, new contenders taking on a seasoned, long time world champ.

Supposedly rebellious FSB agents were leaking talk about a possible Chinese invasion of Taiwan after the ukrainian invasion by russia.

Don't know how true it is.

But the incompetence of russia might just have saved taiwan.
