  • Recommend Some Mafia Films

Apart from The Godfather, Goodfellas, Casino, Bronx Tale, are there any hidden gems I'm missing?

I recently watched Gotti on a recommendation from someone on here, a movie I avoided watching for ages because it was made for TV. I was surprised how good it was and just how brilliant Asante is.

Any other mafia/gangster films I might have missed?

Year of the Dragon - Mickey Rourke vs the Chinese Mafia in NYC, 1980s. Epic movie. Underrated as ****. In the 80s people weren't ready for a protagonist who a washed up, racist cop that was as bad as or worse than the criminals he was chasing. It's not some political statement, it's just a far more accurate depiction of what was going on back then.

              History of Violence - Masterpiece.

Once Up a Time in America - If you have a lazy Sunday with nothin' to do, check this one out. Really important: you need to get the Extended Director's Cut. Siskel and Ebert said the extended cut was one of the best gangster films ever, while the original theater cut the worst film of 1984.

Charley Varrick with Walter Matthau - Not really a mafia flick, but it shows what can happen if you steal money from the mafia. A good watch.

That was the movie Tarantino stole the line about going to work on someone with a pair of pliers and a blowtorch. Made famous in Pulp Fiction.
