  • Best fighters to ever step in the ring

Simple as that, not talking about resume, record or championships, just talking about pure fighting quality, which are the best fighters ever?.

    My picks:

    1. Sugar Ray Robinson
    2. Sugar Ray Leonard
    3. Muhammad Ali
    4. Roberto Duran
    5. Roy Jones
    6. Ezzard Charles
    7. Salvador Sanchez
    8. Pernell Whitaker
    9. Willie Pep
    10. Tommy Hearns

      Do you mind explaining why?

There's a lot of fighters who were more complete and tougher than most you've listed here. It would be nice to know why you picked these fighters.

Roberto Duran lost all big matches except the first to Leonard, who foolishly decided to brawl. Once Leonard boxed in the rematches, Duran was outclassed. Hearns destroyed Duran. And he also lost to Hagler.

Is it possible to get through a post in this forum without invoking Floyd Mayweather? He ducked the most dangerous challengers until they were old.

You’re aware Duran was a lightweight who moved up with no catch weights like 152

I'm not sure there's LOTS of fighters more complete than those but I would love to take a look. I think all of those fighters had speed, poweer, defense, combinations and the ability to fight at any distance. Pep was lacking the power of course.

I have to imagine that when the discussion is "the best fighter," that Floyd would inevitably be in the conversation.
