  • Comments Thread For: Barry Hearn Defends Choice of Saudi Arabia For Ruiz-Joshua II

Barry Hearn, founder and chairman of Matchroom Sport, discussed the selection of Saudi Arabia as the event location for the heavyweight rematch between Andy Ruiz and Anthony Joshua. Two weeks ago, Barry's son, Eddie Hearn, held a press conference in London and officially announced the location of the rematch.

There is nothing wrong with Saudi being a place to hold a Boxing match. The problem here is Team Ruiz trying to get out of the fight and they and the PBC junkies will crap hard on anything they dont wana do. Its what they do.

Did you watch the Ruiz/Joshua fight?. NO ONE who drops someone four times while crushing them is afraid to face them again. NO ONE! Let's use some needed logic on this one!

So in other words, people have been making fun and being mean to Eddie, so he’s off to a safe space while daddy talks to the cameras.

I'm certainly no fan of Saudi Arabia, and would never go there. But then I can't travel at all these days until/if I get some health issues fixed. But to say Ruiz isn't afraid to go there is a bit disingenuous IMO. It's ok to say he IS afraid to go there, and maybe even afraid to rematch Joshua and is using his refusal to go there because of the nation's human rights violations history as an excuse. He's indicated he'll only fight in the U.S. or Mexico, and not even England. Like Hearn said, several sporting events have been held in Saudi, and no glitches. So we will soon see the reality of all this when Hearn holds Ruiz to the contract... which I think is what will happen in the long run.

When a fight happens in America, they say it's where the big money is...money talks...etc.

When the big money is elsewhere everyone has a problem, I guess money doesn't talk.

I must say that reading the arguments against Saudi Arabia for the fight location has me questioning the general publics ability to think and evaluate situations rationally and logically. Not only do some argue that Anthony Joshua(an athlete) and his team should play politicians and speak out against Saudia Arabias human rights record when there's no outcry for the actual politicians to do so, but there are those who are steadfast in the belief that a contract can and should be reneged on when in hindsight it can benefit a signer.
And the whole US safety advisory, do people realize what other countries are Level 2 just like Saudi Arabia? The UK, Italy, France, Germany, Phillipines, Hong Kong, South Africa, Jamaica, Mexico just to list a few.

Come on folks, I'd like to believe all of us are better than this.
