Hearns/Duran II, Who and WHY?

Whadda ya got for me, lads? With both men in prime condition for the rematch, does Bob Duran ever have a chance of defeating his nightmare KO nemesis from the motor city? Furthermore, is it actually even possible against this particular opponent for Bob to ever again achieve prime MENTAL condition? Would Hearns in fact have a mental lock on him forevermore? You tell me.

I never heard anybody refer to Duran as Bob ever.That sounds funny almost unreal.

Hearns outboxed Benitez who was a defensive genius. So I have to go with Tommy. His reach and jab would be Duran's undoing. Duran has to get inside past that jab and straight right. Ouch!!!!

By Duran's own account, he didn't train or prepare properly for Hearns. Why someone would ever take Hearns lightly is beyond me, but Duran seemed to struggle mentally from the rematch to Leonard onward. He had a few good wins after, but he was inconsistent.

Based upon his performance against Hagler, and that he claims he injured his right hand in the 5th round and didn't really use it much for the next ten rounds, I believe he could have done far better in a rematch with Hearns. Provided he was mentally focused and had a good training camp. I'd still call it a 50/50 fight in a rematch.

Hearns his style just beat Duran everytime he a boxer puncher/brawler but Leonard was able to what he did by being a pure boxer and being able to box his way in on Hearns something Duran isnt.

Even the Duran that beat Leonard would still get ko'ed just based on his all action style

Duran has to go in as the underdog, no doubt there. But we have to remember he was able to hurt large men who owned huge muscle mass. He actually hurt Barkley, he did not just knock him down. Now Hearns was harder to get to but definitely easier to hurt once you did reach him. Can Bobby get inside and reach him, that is the question?

Duran can win an inside fight with Tommy, I believe. Connect them at the naval by a two foot cord, and I believe Bobby wins the fight. Can he do a similar thing without a cord?

Hearns isn't a good style matchup for Duran, especially at 154, where they fought. And certainly not above that.

At 147, Duran might have had a shot at winning, but I'd still pick Hearns.
