  • List some recent good and bad examples of fighters moving up in weight

    Bad ones:

Khan went to, was it 155 to fight Canelo, he was inactive, he's been knocked out before and he went up in weight and got knocked out again. He moved up 2 weight classes

Kell Brooke went up to 160 and gained a lot of weight, might've been heavier than GGG, got tired quick and got taken out. He moved up 2 weight classes

Rigo was old and inactive, went up 130, got outclassed and quit. He moved up 2 weight classes.

    Good ones:

Ward went up gradually and built the level of opposition before he faced the best. He moved up one weight class.

Canelo - same story, took his time and built up the level of opposition before he faced the best. He moved up one weight class.

Good ones: Manny Pacquiao jumped up two weight divisions and destroyed Oscar De La Hoya and then was a great fighter.

Bernard Hopkins: Same thing after destroying Antonio Tarver

Both good and bad; Robert Guerrero. Moved up 2 div to get a Mayweather fight and in doing so secured his financial future. But, also ruined himself as a fighter because he was much slower at 147 got in too many wars. He was nicknamed "The Ghost" for being elusive but ironically the Guerrero most saw was slow and immobile.

Bad: Chad Dawson moving from 175 to 168 to take on Andre Ward.

Neutral: Jarrell "Big Baby" Miller moving up from 270 to 295 and then back down to 270. I don't think it made a difference.

Good: Bellew moving up to face a shot to pieces Haye on one leg to earn millions while avoiding his cruiserweight mandatory the dangerous but relatively unknown Breidis who would school him for peanuts and took his soul while doing it.

Bad: Tyson Fury moving up to 360 pounds.

It seems like Chris Eubank Jr. made the right move. He walked into a super-MW tournament that could potentially make him a big star if he wins it. And he got the George Groves fight which is a marketable domestic British scrap.

Khan didn't move up 2 weight classes. If the fight was at 160 that would have been two weight classes. The fight was at 155 which is one weight class + one pound. If Canelo was a natural 147 pound boxer he would still have KOed Khan in my opinion because he is a better fighter, a much harder puncher and has a ten times better chin. Khan's mistake was fighting a boxer of Canelo's quality at any weight. Still I heard Khan was paid 13 million dollars to fight Canelo so money wise it was a wise choice.

Eubank looks like a damn good super middleweight to me. I think he will KO Groves without much difficulty.
