  • Comments Thread For: BWAA Announce a Women's Fighter of The Year Award

Throughout boxing history, women have made a significant contribution to the sport, both in and out of the ring. These contributions have often been met with little recognition from the media and the public at large, including those within the boxing world. But today, the Boxing Writers Association of America is pleased to announce that beginning with the 2017 award season, the organization will present a Women's Fighter of the Year award, to be presented each year at the BWAA's annual dinner.

I like that they keep these awards and recognitions for women's boxing separate. No one wants this to turn into the UFC-style politically correct BS where you have women on the P4P lists together with men. I remember when the UFC had Ronda in P4P top 10 LMAO.

Women's athletes have the same right of respect and recognition

I am sorry; but I approve this with open mind. Amanda Serrano, world champion in five different weight classes and Cecilia Braekhus the welterweight undisputed champion of the world and pound for pound #1. Don't forget the two consecutive gold medals of Claressa Shields of 2012 Olympics in London and 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro Brazil and one of the youngest. Also, Katie Taylor is on the rising. These women's and the overall female athletes deserve respect and recognition. PS: Women's are not a sexual symbol, I hope you are all mature to understand this. More respect please, we need these women in the undercards of male boxing fighters like Christine Martin was in a few undercards of Mike Tyson

IBF minimumweight world champion Cai Zongju is a very great fighter. She is the only boxing world champion from China and should be among the top.
