  • 35 year old Golovkin, past his best and 27 year old, peak Canelo both evenly matched?

So based on the evidence of their last fight, is it now fair to say that a 35 year old Golovkin who is past his best is evenly matched with a 27 year old, peak Canelo Alvarez? Considering the margin between the two was so close and even if one claims that either guy won, nobody can justifiably argue that the bout wasn't competitive or either guy TOTALLY dominated and won by a HUGE margin.

Any objective viewer could see that there was very little between the two in their last fight if we exclude ******s, haters, and others with different agendas. Neither showed any significant advantage over the other. In other words, the current version of Golovkin vs the current version of Canelo Alvarez is practically a 50/50 bout with both having 50% chance of winning.

So what does it say about the fact that an old, 35 year old, past his best Gennady Golovkin is evenly matched with a 27 year old peak Canelo Alvarez?

How do you know he's past his best and it's not the competition? When was his best and who was he fighting?

So you think that any athlete, at age 35 would ever be (barring EXTREMELY rare scenarios) better than how they were in their late 20's? I'm not just referring to boxing alone, but of any 'athletic' sport. Be it tennis, football (soccer), basketball and so forth.

Keep in mind that we're not also just talking about any athlete, but we're talking about a pressure fighter and pressure fighters have historically declined at a younger age than pretty much compared to boxers of any other style. Even Mike Tyson was severely declined by age 35. Why should Golovkin be an exception?

Imo his best was from the proksa fight up until the fight with martin Murray so 2011-2014 he has gradually declined with age as well as increase of comp so less impressive less emphatic victories

Golovkin from the Martin Murray fight would've destroyed Daniel Jacobs in my opinion.

It's not just the higher level of competition, though. Staying in one weight class into your mid-30's is very rare nowadays and extremely hard on your body. Every top fighter moves up around this time because the size advantage on fight night no longer outweighs the wear and tear of cutting weight. Not saying GGG is not a natural middle weight, but it's clear he's not in the same physical shape as he once was.

I agree and to be fair I think that he has looked less than stellar at his last five weigh ins as in struggling to make weight because of a slowing metabolism amongst other genetically unavoidable aging processes reflexes diminishing reaction times. Recovery and energy levels etc

Who said better? You can't really compare Golovkin to other fighters like Tyson. They were fighting world class opposition from a young age and taking punishment. Golovkin hasn't, he was fighting in headgear.

His drop in dominance has coincided with his increase in competition. Happens to all fighters when they step up. Unfortunately Golovkin is only just doing it in his mid thirties. Making it impossible to tell if it's age or competition.

To hang in their and stay with Canelo at 35 and NOT having speed shows how good GGG is and was just based on that ,no one would disagree with that unless they have an agenda .

Both are very evenly matched but Canelo has speed and better ring abilities overall . He lost this one but would be hard to bet against him in a rematch with close rnds he could win next time with simple adjustments . GGG i think has levelled off a bit , i think he takes an L next time .
