  • Why is Roberto Duran rated higher than Sugar Ray Leonard?

Just curious? Why do people generally consider Duran to rank higher than SRL pound for pound? I mean I'm a fan of both but Leonard's resume is pretty untouchable.

He beat Leonard in his prime, and he has about three times as many fights to his record.

Roberto is ATG at lightweight, his run up just cemented his legacy. Not SRL-like fights made Roberto ATG, but De Jesus-like.

Leonard beat him x2 though and conquered Hearns, Hagler and Benitez.

Probably for the same reason pac is generally rated higher than floyd. Moving through divisions

He got a gift in the Hearns rematch and the third Duran fight was a joke. His win over Hagler is still disputed to this day. Not trying to bash Leonard, I like and respect him, but I think Duran's legacy is more impressive and his fighting style was more entertaining. He didn't try to steal rounds by waiting to fight in the last 30 seconds.

RSL is overrated and he should have lost against Hagler.

Why no way? Duran makes a solid case to be p4p better than SRL imo

The style and form a boxer fights from and the success he has with that style defines his status in the sports history as much as who he fought.
Sugar Ray Robinson is the greatest all time because he could
box at an extreme high level and also punch with power in either hand.
Duran was a pressure fighter who boxed his way in with excellent foot and hand speed, had upper body movement and put punches together in a series that was effective against different opponents. He could box and punch!

He is a top five lightweight who holds wins over other contenders and champions in other weight classes.

Pressure style from a boxers stance and a relentless will to wear down his opponents.
One of the best boxers to watch in his prime!
